A man who perished after being pulled from a river has been identified as Mike Carey, a former presenter for BBC Radio Derby. Saturday morning at Darley Abbey Mills, Mr. Carey was rescued from the River Derwent, according to Derbyshire Police.

The 87-year-old local resident was taken to the hospital but died shortly thereafter.

Mr. Carey hosted the radio program Memorable Melodies for nearly two decades prior to his retirement in 2019.
Officers are investigating how he entered the water, according to the police.
The police are seeking anyone who was in the area between 8:30 and 9:20 BST on Saturday.
In addition to being a radio host, Mr. Carey was also an author and a national cricket correspondent.
Aftab Gulzar, the executive editor at BBC Radio Derby, stated that Mr. Carey led an âincredible lifeâ at the station.
Mr. Gulzar stated,
âOur hearts go out to Mikeâs family, friends, and Radio Derby listeners who will recall fondly his Memorable Melodies program, which aired for nearly two decades.
âMike retired in 2019 and leaves us with wonderful memories of his passion for music and incredible stories from his fantastic career.â
Charles Collins, a sports journalist, and broadcaster, stated that he met Mr. Carey in 2002 when Mr. Carey joined BBC Radio Derby, and they became âgreat friends.â
Mr. Collins remarked that Mr. Carey was an excellent source of anecdotes âbecause he knew everybody in Derbyshireâ
âWhen I was covering Derbyshire cricket, I could simply call Mike to confirm any story,â he said.
The Derbyshire County Cricket Club was âdeeply saddenedâ by the news of Mr. Careyâs passing.
David Griffin, the clubâs heritage officer, said, âAs teenagers following Derbyshire in the 1970s, Mike Carey was a familiar figure, a popular writer with forthright views on the game who was often accompanied by his pet dog.â
Mr. Carey has been described as a âlong-standing supporterâ by the Darley Abbey Cricket Club.
The club stated,
âThose who knew him will have an abundance of tales to tell about him and his dogs. âMay Mike Rest In Peaceâ
Mr. Carey covered Englandâs international tours in Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa throughout his career.
Mr. Carey published multiple volumes about cricket, as well as biographies of Derby composer Ronald Binge and singer Denny Dennis.
